01 Concepts Generation

Based on the needs we observed in the research phase of this project, we generated over fifty different concepts that then led to thirteen concepts. These concepts would then be presented to each family in order to validate the needs — with each validation session, the concepts evolved and improved based on feedback received.

We found the cartoon format to be extremely engaging with all the families, with most of the cartoons evoking clear strong positive or negative feedback but always seeding discussion.

Filtering, organization, and tagging meaning

These concepts were designed to test the need to help families decide which mementos to keep and which to discard. We were also interested to see how much families were interested in receiving help in organizing their mementos.

Cuing and reactivation

The following storyboards were designed to see if families had a need for reactivation or cuing mementos that have already been stored.

Sharing with extended family and friends

These storyboards intend to evaluate the need to share mementos and other memories with extended family and friends who are not able to otherwise participate.

Visualizing progress and development of kids

This concept aimed to find out whether families like to visualize the progress of their kids (by tracking the updates of mementos such as swimming trophies).

Validation of parents' efforts

This storyboard was geared towards the implied understanding that parents are not thanked for their efforts. We wanted to see if parents would appreciate gratitude from a smart home device for their efforts.
