The Driver Assessment and Training System

Description

The Driver Assessment and Training System (DATS) Module of STISIM Drive (driving simulator) uses a programmed learning approach to driver assessment, driver education, driver training and driver retraining. Once the program administrator (i.e. the teacher, therapist or researcher) has set up the lesson presentation, content, order, and performance requirements, the subjects (i.e. students) can learn with minimal supervision. One teacher can supervise many students, each at his or her own workstation. The DATS tracks and retains each subject's performance records in the form of reports and playback files which can be reviewed at anytime. These data can be used for grading purposes in a driver education class or for subject evaluation by occupational therapists or researchers. The DATS can be programmed to present all the training files at once, which allows the subject to select the order in which to complete the program; or the order can be fixed so that the student moves on to advanced material only after he/she has mastered basic concepts.
